Do every common act as a god should do it; speak every word as a god should speak it.

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.

The person who understands Dharma will have the opposite reaction to a "hard" job. That person will be eager to get started, no matter what kind of work is in front of her, because she understands that she's doing God's work. And when you're working for God, nothing is too hard.

Believe me! The secret to reaping the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment from life is to live dangerously!

Call me whatever you like; I am who I must be.

I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

When God lets loose a great thinker on this planet, then all things are at risk. There is not a piece of science but its flank may be turned to-morrow; nor any literary reputation or the so-called eternal names of fame that many not be refused and condemned.

Every story is a variation on a single theme: This shouldn’t be happening. I shouldn’t be having this experience. God is unjust. Life isn’t fair.

He who learns must suffer and even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop on the heart and in our own despair against our own will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.
